Asthma Expert

When Do I Need to See an Asthma Expert?

Asthma causes narrowing of the airways and makes it difficult to breathe. Although there is no cure, an asthma expert can help you manage the symptoms. If you occasionally have difficulty breathing, you experience wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath, it's a sign you probably need to see an asthma expert. Tightening in your chest and a sore throat that seems to come on more because of cold weather than being sick can also be a symptom. Allergic reactions to environmental factors such as cigarette smoke, pet dander, and pollen are all signs that you should see an Asthma expert.

Are you ready to look for an asthma expert? Here's what to do. Talk to your family doctor or pediatrician first. They may be able to help, and if not, they will refer you to an asthma specialist who is an immunologist, respiratory therapist, or allergist—depending on what's causing the issue.
